My "sleepy" girls!

This morning Nate and I got to sleep in until 8 a.m.! We woke up and thought “Wow, that is so great of the girls to sleep in so long!” While Nate got ready for school, I tip-toed to Kenna’s room to wake her up. I slowly opened the door and instead of a sleeping girl, I found this…

She was in her dress-up clothes playing with toys! Who knows how long she had been awake, but we were grateful at least she was quiet. :) I then went in to Sage’s room and she was wide awake as well, playing with her teddy bear in her crib. What good girls! Thanks for letting us sleep in, we appreciated it!

Sage wanted to dress up, too!

Fun at the Farm!

Last weekend we spent a day at Lone Pine Farms which is about 10 minutes from our house. They had so much to do there and we had a blast! They had a little “hay maze” that was just tall enough so Nate and I could see each other, but the girls couldn’t. We played hide & seek and tag in there for a while – the girls could have stayed for hours! It was SO much fun! They also have goats to feed, a playground, an awesome market with fresh produce grown on the farm…and so much more. And to top it all off, they have a cute little ice cream shop. Delicious! Oh how we love weekends!

Just a couple random pictures from that morning for your viewing pleasure!

From the mouth of Makenna...

I have discovered that you learn a lot about the way you talk when you have a 2-year old around! For example, Kenna used to end a good portion of her sentences with “real kick”, like “read me a book real kick” or “I need a snack real kick”. I kept thinking, “where is she getting that from?” Then one day I noticed myself say “I’m going to go get Sage really quick”. The light turned on. I then counted how many times I caught myself saying that and it was a ton! Who knew? So then you can imagine my guilt when I heard Kenna talking to her puppy after waking up from a nap, saying “I mean it! This is your last chance or you’ll have to go to time-out!” Hmmm….

This is completely unrelated, but Kenna made me laugh the other day so I wanted to share. Lately she has been learning where people live. She knows she lives in Oregon (along with Mom, Dad, Sage, Mac & Carter…small state) and Grandma, Grandpa and her cousins live in Utah. She’s also learning about ages. The other day I asked her how old she was, she correctly replied “I’m 2!” I then asked how old I am. Her answer, “you’re 20” (good answer, keep it there for the next 20 years!). :) “So how old is Dad?” I ask. “He’s 5.” Sorry Nate! :)

The Duck Game!

On Saturday we had the awesome opportunity of going to a Duck’s football game, VIP style! Our wonderful friends and neighbors, Melinda and Virginia invited us to go and we had a ball. It was my first trip to Autzen Stadium (Nate’s 2nd – he went to the Utah/Oregon game last year) and it was impressive! It did rain for a lot of the game (despite the saying “it never rains in Autzen Stadium”!), but luckily we were fortunate enough to have covered seats in a suite! Not to mention dinner catered by Outback Steakhouse. Yeah, we are spoiled! Oregon creamed Portland State 69-0 but it was still a fabulous game. And it was so fun to get out and do something with just Nate and I…we felt like teenagers again! :) Thanks Melinda & Virginia for the amazing day, we had a blast!

This picture is my favorite because Nate asked a lady behind us to take a picture and she turned out to be TOTALLY drunk! She kept swaying around with our camera and took a couple minutes to finally take this beauty. You can't really tell, but we are laughing SO hard! It was pretty hilarious. After she finally took it, she said "it looks dark", but we immediately assured her it was exactly what we needed. Awesome entertainment! :)

The Carnival

Saturday we went to a carnival to raise funds for Komen for the cure. We had the traditional carnival lunch - hot dogs and ice cream, got a balloon in the shape of a dog, played the carnival games and enjoyed the day. The first picture says it all...

What a good-looking family!
Of course Sage loved the Ice Cream!

Our Outdoor Evening

On Friday we headed up to the beautiful mountains for a little roasting party! We are so spoiled here in Oregon because one hour west we have the coast and about 30 minutes in every other direction we have national forests with awesome camping and hiking possibilities. We LOVE it! So this weekend we joined a bunch of our best friends for tasty tin-foil dinners, s’mores and hot chocolate! We had a beautiful view, awesome food and wonderful company. What a fun night!

Hair!

My girls have some crazy hair! People are ALWAYS asking us where Makenna's hair came from. The answer, to be honest, is we have no clue! My mom, sister & father-in-law all had some curl to their hair at some point, but never Nate or I. Must be one of those hidden genes that just jumped out all of the sudden. I frequently get asked if it's natural or if I curl it. I want to say "you've obviously never tried to do a 2-year old's hair." She barely sits still for me to brush it and stick in a bow! (But luckily that's all I have to do and it looks done!) When it is wet it goes to the middle of her back and then pulls up into little ringlets as it dries. She's my little curly sue! Sage on the other hand, does not have curly hair. It is straight and can be wild, but it fits her perfectly! She is my straight-haired beauty and I love that she has her own little look.

A Wonderful Labor Day!

For Labor Day this year we kept on the tradition of spending the day at the Coast with our friends! I was planning for a cold day, but it turned out to be beautiful! I had the girls all dressed up in long sleeve shirts and jackets, but they quickly got down to their undershirts. They both loved digging in the sand and Sage loved eating it. :) The guys played football, the gals chatted, we had a picnic lunch and just enjoyed the day. Can’t ask for more than that! It was a great end to a wonderful 3 day weekend with Dad all to ourselves. (For the most part anyway, I guess in law school you can never fully escape studying!) It was a splendid day without labor!
